selected python environment doesn't stick

Whenever I select a conda pyhton environment for my project (at least when using Remote SSH extension towards a Linux machine) it doesn't stick. At the next restart/reconnection it will automatically select the base conda environment.

OS: Windows 11 with Remote SSH extension towards linux machine
Python environment extension version: 1.23.10701010

Same here (not persisting conda env selection across restarts).
For now had to disable the extension as a work-around.

Does this repro with Try install https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=ms-python.vscode-python-envs

Can you update Python extension, Python environment extension to latest and see if you can still repro?
Also add "python.useEnvironmentsExtension": true, to your settings.json.

Please file issue on https://github.com/microsoft/vscode-python-environments/issues if you see problem again,

Thanks @anthonykim1, but still not working on my end (not persisting conda env selection across restarts).
Disabled the extension as a work-around for now.

I had the same problem, setting python.useEnvironmentsExtension: false at least restored my sanity. It seems to persistently select the conda environment with the latest python version, despite various attempts at preventing it from doing so in the .env or .vscode/settings.json

Have it downgraded to 1.16.0, works like a charm, if it wasn't for setting environments across workspaces I would have disabled it fr.

@m31317015 Downgrading to 1.16.0 seems to have fixed it for me as well. I was on version 1.20.1.
