I have scoured the web and tried numerous proposed solutions and none of them work. I finally came across the following resource which explained that if these methods do not work I would need to contact the support team to reconcile this issue

    https://www.wpexplorer.com/remove-wordpress-comment-url-field/

Please advise what steps are required to completely remove the URL field from the comment entry form. Note there are four fields displayed: Content, email address, name and website. I want to remove the 4th item in that list so that people who leave comments are no longer able to include a website URL in that filed.

The only way I can remove this website URL field is to disable Jetpack setting named: “Replace the default comment form with a modern, feature‑rich alternative.”

Thanks for taking the time to review and respond to this request.

    Hi there, @dryheat3,

Are you referring to the comment form on hahn.tech.com? I checked the post you linked, and I cannot see the URL/website field to enter – please see the screenshot in the link below:

Can you tell me if I am missing anything? It seems like the Jetpack Comments feature has been disabled at the moment, can you confirm this to me?
You can share screenshots if that helps. You can create screenshots using something like Snipboard or Imgur and post the link here.

Look forward to your reply, and thanks in advance for your cooperation in sorting that out with us!

You are correct. I had to disable the Jetpack comments feature because it was allowing spammers to enter comments promoting their own websites. And I was not able to remove the “website url” from the Jetpack comments form. So was forced to turn that feature off.

So my request is this. Show me how I can disable the website url label and field from the Jetpack comments form. Once I can get that completed, I will be able to turn on the Jetpack comments feature again.

Here is a screenshot showing what it looks like when this feature is enabled. I have marked the field which needs to be removed. FYI, this really should be completely removed. It is only ever used for spam comments. So at the very least, the Jetpack plugin should include a setting to turn this off, and have it turned off by default. That would be the right way to do it.

    Hi there, @dryheat3,

Thanks for confirming that and for sharing the link with the screenshot. Currently, Jetpack Comments does not offer a built-in option to remove the website URL field from the comment form. If you want to disable the URL field, you would need to use custom code, or use a third-party plugin.

Since it goes beyond our scope of Support, we cannot provide further assistance with custom code, unfortunately.

I hope this helps anyway, at least to take an informed decision on whether to reactivate the Jetpack’s Comment feature. If you have trouble with spammers, you could consider tightening the comments moderation and the discussion settings, and/or use Akismet as anti-spam aid.

If you pivot for something else, we hope you will keep using all the other Jetpack features 🙂

Thanks for trying to help. But unfortunately this only adds to the long list of features I have stopped using in the Jetpack plugin. It all started out great. But over time the Jetpack service has morphed into something that no longer adds any value to managing my website.

    Hey @dryheat3,

We really appreciate you sharing your thoughts with us, even if it’s not the easiest feedback to give. I’m sorry to hear Jetpack no longer feels as valuable for you as it once did; we definitely don’t take that lightly.

Things have changed over time, and we understand not every update will work for everyone. At the same time, we’re always working on improving the experience, and I truly hope we’ll have the chance to win you back in the future.

In the meantime, thank you for having been part of the Jetpack community and for giving it a try. Should you ever decide to revisit Jetpack, we’ll be here to welcome you back 🙂
