Nexa Resources SA (NEXA), a NYSE-listed metal producer, announced on May 13 that a sudden fire broke out early that morning at its Cajamarquilla zinc smelter in Peru. Operations at the plant have been temporarily suspended, and the fire is currently fully under control.

Following the incident, the company immediately activated its internal emergency response mechanism and carried out preventive evacuations of personnel in the at-risk area. The accident caused no fatalities; a total of four people were injured, including one company employee and three external contractors. The injured are currently in stable condition.

The fire caused damage to some of the smelter's infrastructure. The company's preliminary assessment indicates that this accident will not have a material impact. The company is currently coordinating with official authorities for follow-up communications, while simultaneously assessing the facility repair timeline and the schedule for resuming operations. The specific cause of the fire is still under further investigation.
