Murata Manufacturing invests 16.9 billion yen to build a new thermistor production base.
Murata Manufacturing, the global leader in passive components, has officially announced that it will expand its existing plant in Yokaichi, Shiga Prefecture, to establish a new specialized production base for thermistors.
The total investment for this project is approximately 16.9 billion yen. Construction is scheduled to officially begin in May 2026, with completion and production expected by August 2028, focusing on the mass production of NTC, PTC, and other thermistor products. The core objective of the project is to significantly expand thermistor production capacity to meet the continuously rising market demand for temperature sensors in sectors such as new energy vehicles, industrial automation, and consumer electronics.
Thermistors are key passive components in the electronics industry chain and are widely used in temperature detection and control scenarios across various devices. With its leading global market share, Murata firmly holds a position in the first tier of the industry. This new production base will further consolidate its production capacity advantages and strengthen the stability of its global supply chain and its market influence.
Meanwhile, Murata is simultaneously advancing multiple supply chain strategic adjustments: on one hand, it has launched a three-year plan to isolate rare earth procurement in China and reconstruct its global raw material supply layout; on the other hand, it continues to push forward with capacity restoration work following the 2024 Noto Peninsula earthquake, with some of its factories still in the stages of post-disaster resumption of production and equipment repair.
