Bypass "stranglehold" raw materials! Yongrong Technology's hexamethylenediamine project successfully put into production
At 8:18 on May 20, Yongrong Technology, a subsidiary of Yongrong Holding Group, saw its 30,000 tons/year caprolactam-to-hexamethylenediamine project achieve full-line connectivity, successful one-time startup, and the production of high-quality hexamethylenediamine products, marking a new pathway for the self-sufficiency of key raw materials for Nylon 66 in China.
Hexamethylenediamine is a core intermediate for producing Nylon 66. The production technology of its upstream raw material, adiponitrile, has long been monopolized by overseas enterprises, making it a "bottleneck" restricting the development of China's nylon industry. Currently, the global mainstream method involves producing adiponitrile via the butadiene method and then converting it to hexamethylenediamine. This route is not only heavily influenced by raw material price fluctuations and high costs but also features core patent barriers that are extremely difficult to break.
Innovative Process Breaks the Deadlock, Eliminating Dependence on Adiponitrile
Yongrong Holding has blazed a new trail by adopting an innovative process of directly producing hexamethylenediamine from caprolactam, completely bypassing the adiponitrile step in the traditional route, breaking the overseas technology blockade, and achieving a technological leap from "single source" to "diversified independence."
The new process offers advantages such as simplified flow, low investment cost, high safety, and high raw material conversion rate. The production cost per ton is significantly lower than that of the butadiene method, providing a cost-effective, self-controlled raw material guarantee for the Nylon 66 industry.
Efficient Advancement, Products Benchmarking International Standards
The project progressed efficiently: design and construction commenced in 2025, and mechanical completion was achieved in February 2026; the aminocapronitrile unit commenced trial operation with feed at the end of April, the hexamethylenediamine unit was fed on May 14, and refined hexamethylenediamine was successfully produced on May 19.
The indicators of the initially produced hexamethylenediamine products benchmark the standards of the international giant Invista, fully meeting the demands of downstream high-end polymerization.
Industry Resonance! Xuyang's Project with Same Process Lands First
It is worth noting that on May 4, Xuyang Group's Yuncheng Park saw its 50,000 tons/year caprolactam-to-hexamethylenediamine unit achieve full-line connectivity first, with a successful one-time startup and the output of qualified products.
This unit also adopts the self-developed process of directly producing hexamethylenediamine from caprolactam, eliminating dependence on butadiene. The production cost is reduced by approximately 30% compared to the traditional route, forming a complete set of independent intellectual property rights.
The successive commissioning of the two major projects marks that China has successfully opened up a new route of caprolactam → hexamethylenediamine, complementing the butadiene method, thoroughly breaking the overseas monopoly on the hexamethylenediamine industrial chain, and injecting strong momentum into the high-quality development of the domestic Nylon 66 industry.
