Passage requires permission, routes are regulated: Major changes in the management of the Strait of Hormuz
On May 30, local time, Iran introduced clear measures regarding the management and control of shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. The Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters of the Iranian Armed Forces announced that it has officially taken over the comprehensive management of shipping in the Strait, requiring all civilian vessels, including merchant ships and oil tankers passing through the area, to strictly follow established routes and obtain sailing permits from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy in advance.
The Iranian side explained that the Strait's waterway implements an integrated management model, and violations by vessels would directly lead to major safety hazards. Meanwhile, Iran issued a stern warning to external forces, prohibiting foreign warships from interfering in the management of the Strait or disrupting normal maritime traffic. Should such actions occur, the Iranian armed forces will take corresponding measures.
On the legislative front, Salimi, a member of the Presidium of the Islamic Parliament of Iran, simultaneously revealed that the parliamentary proposal regarding the exercise of sovereign jurisdiction over the Strait of Hormuz has entered its final stages and will soon complete voting, ultimately becoming a long-term law and regulation.
