On May 27, LG Energy Solution officially announced that it has signed an Energy Storage System (ESS) supply contract with DTE Energy, a leading utility company in Michigan, USA. The total order value is $1.6 billion (approximately 10.8 billion RMB). The contract stipulates the delivery of a total of 6 GWh of energy storage battery products in batches over the next two years.

DTE Energy is a long-established local power operator in the United States, with its two major business segments covering 2.3 million and 1.3 million residential electricity users respectively. The energy storage equipment procured this time will be entirely deployed in DTE's eight major power grid infrastructure projects. The scope of the projects covers peak shaving support and power supply for large industrial parks, including the dedicated energy storage support project for Oracle's AI supercomputing data center, binding it to the essential demand for energy storage in North American computing infrastructure.

LG Energy Solution has confirmed that the energy storage cells for this batch will be mass-produced and delivered primarily by its Holland factory in Michigan, USA. This base achieved the first large-scale mass production of energy storage batteries in the North American region last June. It serves as the core benchmark production line for LG's ESS industry layout in the US. Localized production can avoid cost disruptions such as transoceanic logistics and import/export tariffs, ensuring on-time order fulfillment.

Currently, LG Energy Solution has established five major production bases in North America, with a capacity layout covering multiple locations in Canada, Tennessee, Ohio, and Michigan: the Windsor factory in Canada, two proprietary energy storage factories in Michigan, the General Motors joint venture factory in Tennessee, and the battery industrial park jointly built with Honda in Ohio. The synergy between vehicle and energy storage production lines continues to undertake incremental orders for energy storage and power batteries in the US.

The landing of this substantial order is a landmark achievement for LG Energy Solution's deep cultivation of the US energy storage market. With the acceleration of North American power grid upgrades and the surge in electricity consumption by AI data centers, the demand for supporting energy storage in large overseas computing projects continues to expand, and ESS batteries are entering an upward demand cycle.

Relying on a mature local production matrix in North America, LG Energy Solution continues to promote the local production and nearby supply of energy storage products, seizing the opportunities presented by the US clean energy transition and computing infrastructure construction, further consolidating its industry position in the first tier of the North American energy storage battery market.
