Benefiting from the rapid expansion of the global AI industry and accelerated production of computing and storage chips, the demand for precision ceramic components for semiconductor equipment is witnessing a sustained surge. TOTO, the Japanese sanitary ware giant known for its smart toilets, is accelerating its resource allocation into the semiconductor new materials sector. The company plans that in the coming years, capital investment in semiconductor-related businesses will account for over 50% of total capital expenditure, opening a new growth curve by leveraging its mature ceramic craftsmanship.

Leveraging high-temperature resistant and corrosion-resistant precision ceramic preparation technologies accumulated through its deep expertise in the kitchen and bath sector, TOTO has successfully integrated into the upstream semiconductor supply chain. Its specialty ceramic products can withstand dust erosion, chemical corrosion, and the extreme high-temperature environments of chip manufacturing processes, making them key procurement targets for global equipment manufacturers. As current market demand is being released in a concentrated manner, orders for core products such as wafer electrostatic chucks (ESCs) and various semiconductor structural ceramics are steadily rising. As an essential component in etching and deposition processes, the electrostatic chuck relies on static electricity to firmly hold silicon wafers and directly impacts chip production yield. With the expansion of AI servers and high-capacity NAND flash memory, the production and sales of this category continue to climb.

TOTO Chief Technology Officer Ryosuke Hayashi stated in an interview that in response to the rapid expansion of industry orders, the company is optimizing its production line architecture and building a mass production system adapted to huge orders to comprehensively match the procurement needs of downstream equipment manufacturers and wafer fabs. The company has now launched expansion projects for its two major overseas production bases in the United States and China, and the capacity layout is basically in place, leading to a significant adjustment in the capital expenditure structure. Data shows that in the previous fiscal year ending this March, TOTO's investment in the semiconductor sector accounted for only 11% of the group's total capital expenditure. Moving forward, the focus of capital deployment will shift sharply to new materials, and the investment ratio between the traditional residential sanitary business and the new semiconductor business is set to reverse.
